Are you interested in winning some free money? The Kalama Fair has an Essay Contest coming up. Everyone in grades k-12 can enter and cash prizes will be awarded. The due date for the essay is February 11th and is limited to Kalama students only. For more information please come to the office to pick up a flyer.

Kalama Youth Cheer Camp sign up forms are available in the office for grades K-6th. Session one is this Wednesday – 3:15-5:00pm and session two will be on February 2nd - 3:15-5:00pm. For more information please come to the office or contact Stephanie Vossen at 360-431-3330.

6-12 graders: The 17th annual “A Teacher to Remember” essay contest has a deadline of March 3rd. The grand prize will be a gift certificate for $150 to Amazon.com and a party for his/her class. Do you have a special teacher that you would like to honor with an essay? Entry forms are available in the office or from your English teachers.

Finals are tomorrow for the following subjects: Math, P.E., Health, Social Studies, Art, Music and Middle School Electives. The finals for Friday are English, Science, Spanish, Special Services, Leadership and Vocational. Please remember to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning and review your work. Also, remind your parents not to schedule any appointments on Thursday and Friday.

 

Middle School News

“Spirit Week” is this week: Thursday is Nerd Day and Friday is Camo Day.

If you are a middle school girl and are interested in attending Expanding Your Horizons science and math workshops in Seattle on March 12th you need to fill out the registration form and turn it in to Mrs. Hoiland by Friday. There are 43 fun hands-on workshops available covering a wide range of topics including “robots and sensors”, “the chemistry of fireworks”, and “a veterinary challenge”. If you want to see a pickle glow, make your own volcanic eruption, learn to design and build your own animated movie, or learn to make homemade lotions then you need to check out this opportunity. You can get packets from your science teacher, then you must turn in the registration form to Mrs. Hoiland by Friday.

 

High School News

Brenna Mayfield is our student of the day! Mrs. Skillingstead writes that Brenna works hard and is always interested in learning. Congratulations, Brenna!

SENIORS: Walter E Lundquist Scholarship applications are available in the District Office.

This year we are having a Winter Tolo. A Tolo is where girls ask guys to the dance. The theme this year is famous couples on the red carpet. This is a non-formal dance so dress up like someone famous and people can vote for the best dressed. The Tolo will be February 19th from 8:00-11:00pm in the Senior Hall. Tickets will be for sale for $10.00 starting February 14th.

Attention softball players- There will be a meeting in room 109 this Friday at 12:30pm.

Senior picture deadline is fast approaching. The deadline is February 1st for senior pictures, baby pictures and senior ads. Contact Mrs. Schmit with questions. If your senior picture is not received by February 1st we will use your school picture in the yearbook.

Seniors – Do you need help with Financial Aid? The “College Goal Sunday” event will be held on Sun., Jan. 30, at 1:00 p.m. at the WSUV campus in the Undergraduate Classroom building. The purpose of this event is to help students (and parents) fill out the FAFSA form, which is required for most financial aid. Students should bring their parents’ W-2’s, estimated taxes for 2010, and/or last year’s tax return. For more information go to www.clark.edu/special/college_goal.php.

The Cispus counselor deadline is fast approaching. Many students have not turned in their paperwork. If you want to be a counselor, please come to the office for more information. The deadline is February 1st and applications after this date will not be processed.

Running Start

The Senior Portrait headshots deadline is February 1, 2011. Headshots must be uploaded to the yearbook picture upload site by this date to be included in the yearbook. The link can be found on the Yearbook Website, a link off of the Kalama High School Website, drop down menu.

SEMI High Tech U is offering a three day free career exploration program February 22-24 for high school students. Applications are available in the office and are due no later than February 14th. This is a great opportunity at a great price, so don’t miss out.
